Context

Improve their Supervised Access Program with automated attendance logging

Supervised Access Program (SAP) provides shelter across Ontario where parenting visits and exchanges can take place under the supervision of trained staff and volunteers called clinicians. We are building a web application to elevate the administrative burden that’s experienced by the SAP administrators and clinicians through streamlining the intake process of children into the SAP program, and tracking the information from the recurring SAP visits between caregivers, children, and clinicians.

‍

Problem Space

Tedious manual record logging and human screening is still relied on

CAS lacks a streamlined process to keep track of visits between caregivers and the children. Since information is not centralized and often completed manually on spreadsheets, CAS cannot keep up with the volume of data and the amount of duplicated work.

My contributions

Facilitated a seamless product delivery to the client and spearheaded the remaining 40% of the designs

Despite the fact that this was the term I joined the project and worked with the team, I was able to quickly scope out the goals of the project and the client's vision through client meetings and collaboration with the project manager. With my leadership of the final 40% of designs, we wrapped the two-year project in four months.

Setbacks

Lack of clarity from users and the client

Given this was an R&D project and wasn't implemented, we were not able to test the product with real users nor gain any feedback. Additionally, the client (CAS) had no expectations of what they wanted the outcome to look or work like, thus we didn't have any basis to go off of or specificities on what the designs should include. There was a lot of ambiguity of what criteria we had to meet. Nonetheless, we asked more specific questions to our clients and presented the visual assets to better aid in our ideation proposal.
